Sunderland are said to be closing in on a move for transfer target Alexandre Mendy. The Black Cats are gearing up for what they hope will be a playoff push this season. According to French news outlet actu.fr, Mendy was absent from Caen training on Thursday with a deal seemingly nearing.
The forward is already said to have completed his medical at the Stadium of Light, and it seems as though his move to Sunderland is almost wrapped up with the new season just over a week away.
Varane latest
QPR continue to work on a deal for Sporting Gijon midfielder Jonathan Varane. It has been reported that the Hoops are closing in on a deal, but the deal is yet to be struck. According to El Comercio, the two teams remain apart on terms with the fee appearing to be the sticking point.
The report claims the Hoops want to lower the £1.26million asking price Sporting Gijon are holding out for. Talks continue despite the player reportedly already agreeing terms for the Hoops.

Millwall boss Harris is delighted to have a fully fit Joe Bryan with the former Fulham full-back having struggled with fitness last season. Harris told Southwark News: “Joe is a quality Championship full-back that’s played in the Premier League. He’s been one of the standout left-backs at this level for a decade now.
“Certainly when I took over, I never saw a fit Joe Bryan. And I think everyone can see he was hampered for the majority of last season with various injuries. Joe at the moment is looking fit, healthy, determined and training and playing with a lot of desire to not just be in the team but to continue progressing in his career.”
