Berylson on Millwall transfers

Millwall owner James Berylson has been speaking about the transfer window and the club’s efforts to remain financially stable. “In advance of the transfer period we sat down and identified our top targets – players who could not only make a day one impact to the squad but also build long term value – on the pitch as well as financially – for themselves and the club,” said Berylson in an open letter.

“Identifying these players well in advance allowed us to methodically pursue them in the hope of striking the best agreements for both club and player. This is not a zero-sum game. We obviously need to manage costs but we also want players to understand that they will have an important role within the club and we will provide them training and the opportunity to increase their skills as well as their overall value.

“The window is short – deals need to be made rapidly but not in haste. Sometimes days or weeks go by without a signing and it feels like nothing is moving in our direction, then just as suddenly agreements are signed and announcements are made. This past transfer window followed that pattern. However, I am pleased that this has been one of our most successful windows in terms of acquiring our priority targets.”

Gnonto ‘interest’

Wilfried Gnonto may have penned a new contract with Leeds United, and one without a release clause, but there is still said to be interest aplenty ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Milan Live Italian clubs Spezia, Parma and Genoa are all said to be considering a winter move for the Italian, and the latter are said to be the most serious about a possible move. With a new contract and having lost a number of their key stars over the summer, Leeds would likely demand a very big fee to sell Gnonto and especially in January.

Stoke to renew Cundle efforts

Stoke City are said to be interested in a deal to land Wolves star Liam Cundle in the January window. According to The Sun, the Potters are interested in landing Cundle in the winter window having fallen short in their efforts to complete a deal in the summer.

Wolves boss O'Neil told the Express and Star of Cundle last month: "He's done well in pre-season. I've spoken to him about his individual situation and the fact I was impressed by how well he did. His situation could still go either way, to be honest. I spoke to him about the decision that he has to make, because he understands the midfielders that we have at the football club and that there may be some patience and it may be difficult for him."
