Fresh Millwall injury blow confirmed as rivals confirm new manager
All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Millwall, QPR and their Championship rivals.
Another big Championship weekend is already underway with the action kicking off on Friday night. Millwall and QPR are back in action on Saturday, with the Lions hosting Coventry City and QPR welcome Norwich City.
Millwall will be hoping to get back to winning ways after a frustrating draw last time out, while the Hoops will be looking to add at least a point to their ongoing recovery effort. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Championship.
Millwall blow
Millwall boss Neil Harris has confirmed that midfielder could miss around six weeks after he picked up an ankle injury earlier this week.
“In the under-21s game on Monday, Daniel Kelly rolled his ankle and is going to be out of action probably until the new year,” Harris said, as detailed by South London News. “We’re probably looking at the six-week mark as well.”
Norwich boss has headache
Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup is delighted to have a midfield battle on his hands, with Emiliano Marcondes, Anis Ben Slimane and Marcelino Nunez all available to face QPR. "It's the best possible dilemma to have as a football coach," he said. "I can tell you, when we sat here four weeks ago and there were no players available, they were either out with injuries or suspensions or whatever, that's the worst dilemma to be in as a football coach.
"You have to come up with something that you maybe haven't trained, or something that you don't do all day, every day. But now, with the players available, it's all about competition. It's about who will perform the best way in training and in games. Of course we're also looking at where they are in the group. A guy like Kenny (McLean) is the captain for us when he plays, so of course he will be in there, but then how do we shape the team around him? Who are the best players to play close to him?
"That's a great dilemma to have as a coach, and it also means that every time we train, the players have to do their best and make sure that they compete on the highest possible level. So it is a fantastic position to be in."
Riza appointed
Cardiff City have appointed interim boss Omer Riza as manager until the end of the season. Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan said: “We’ve clearly seen a change for the better in playing style and performance during Omer’s time as Interim Manager with some encouraging results. After careful consideration in recent weeks as to what the best decision was for the Club and this squad of players, I’m very pleased to give Omer this opportunity and wish him well.
“Our targets, clearly, are to climb the Championship table and further develop a squad that has youth and ability at its core. I thank our supporters for their patience during this critical review period and hope we can all enjoy better times during the remainder of this season.”
