Millwall double injury blow for Watford and Leeds United as six Premier League clubs eye Lions transfer

Millwall could be without two wingers for upcoming Championship clashes against Watford and Leeds United.

It’s been a dramatic few days for Millwall following an FA Cup defeat to London rivals Crystal Palace and a 2-0 midweek loss to Bristol City in the Championship.

The fallout from the FA Cup clash surrounding Liam Roberts’ red card continues with news of an FA application to lengthen that ban while the loss to Bristol City leaves the Lions 12th in the table.

Millwall double injury blow ahead of Watford and Leeds United

Alex Neil has been handed a double injury blow ahead of a busy week of Championship action. Millwall travel to Watford on Saturday before then making the trip to Yorkshire to take on Leeds United next Wednesday.

Camiel Neghli picked up an ankle injury in the FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace and is set to miss six weeks of action, in a significant blow for the Lions. The 23-year-old hobbled off in the first half of that game.

A January club record signing from Sparta Rotterdam, Neghli missed out of the matchday squad against Bristol City on Tuesday night. Speaking after the game, Neil told Southwark News: “Camiel will probably be about six weeks. He’s rolled his ankle. I think he’s done a bit of damage to a couple of ligaments in his ankle. At the moment the timeline I’ve been given is six weeks.”

Meanwhile, fellow winger Femi Azeez may also miss out against Watford and Leeds United. The former Reading man was substituted against Bristol City after he ‘felt something in his hamstring’. It remains to be seen how serious that niggle is but an immediate return over the next seven days would be remarkable for a hamstring problem.

Millwall star targeted by Premier League clubs

Standard Sport claims that a staggering six Premier League clubs ‘have indicated’ that they are following the progress of Millwall attacking midfielder Ra'ees Bangura-Williams ahead of the summer window. The 20-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign at The Den.

Bangura-Williams has come into the picture under Alex Neil and taken no time to impress with three assists in his first four Championship outings. He also scored his first goal for the club in the FA Cup tie with Dagenham & Redbridge.

The outlet also claims that the ‘long-term’ contract signed by the player at The Den in January runs for two-and-a-half years, keeping him at the club until 2027. Millwall also hold the option of triggering a further year beyond that.

The player trialled with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur as a youngster before signing for Millwall as an academy player from non-league outfit Tooting & Mitchan in December 2023.

In other news, this is how Millwall and QPR fare in a new-look predicted Championship table.
