We were treated to another exciting weekend of Championship football, although it wasn’t so exciting for QPR, who suffered an away defeat to Derby County. Millwall go into the break feeling more cheery than their fellow Londoners having drawn away with West Brom.

At the second break, QPR are currently in the final relegation spot in the still premature Championship table, while Millwall are in 18th. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Championship clubs.

Harris praises McNamara

Millwall boss Neil Harris was impressed by Danny McNamara’s first league start of the season, against West Brom. He told the South London Press: “He is a professional football player that gets paid to play. He works extremely hard during the week and I’m sure he’d love to play on a Saturday afternoon. I’d say that would be the same for all the players who aren’t playing – you go to work all week and you want to perform on a Saturday.

“Danny has had to be extremely patient because Lenny and Joe have been very, very good us for this year. Joe had been a bit under the weather. I just thought with three games in a week that Danny would be the best option for today, especially to deal with Tom Fellows. Danny is an exceptional one-v-one defender. Joe’s got different qualities. He’s a very good defender, he’s played at the top level and he’s exceptional with the ball. I felt today we weren’t going to have a lot of the ball and to deal with Fellows, Wallace or Diangana – or the countless players they’ve got with quality – that Danny would be a very good option. I only took him off because he cramped up at the end.”

Pardew’s Farke advice

Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has explained how Daniel Farke should approach Illan Meslier’s big mistake against Sunderland. He said on TalkSport: “As a manager I can’t imagine… he must have looked at that ball and thought ‘thank God for that’.

“You’re not going to point the finger – he’s feeling bad enough about it already. But you have to talk about it. The team will want you to talk about it, so you frame it as ‘we should have won, it’s a mistake at the end, don’t worry about it’.”

Cardiff narrow options

Cardiff City are said to be narrowing down their options as they look to recruit a new manager to replace Erol Bulut. Tony Mowbray is one of the favourites, according to the Daily Mirror, while former Stoke City boss Steven Schumacher is also being linked.

Elsewhere, Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones, who maintains that he wants to stay put, is also said to be a target, along with former Norwich City boss Alex Neil. Cardiff may also consider keeping interim boss Omer Riza, but that option seems unlikely.
