All the latest news surrounding the Championship as Millwall and QPR head into the international break.

The Championship threw up more interesting results on Saturday with Millwall and QPR both having been in action. The Hoops suffered yet another defeat, losing to Leeds United, falling to the very bottom of the table, while the Lions managed a draw against Stoke City.

The two London clubs, and indeed their rivals, will now be on break for the best part of two weeks as the international break takes hold. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the Championship clubs.

Cifuentes on job pressure

QPR boss Marti Cifuentes is confident his job his safe despite a dire start to the season. “I receive a lot of confidence from the club and I work as always,” he told West London Sport. “I’ve not been saying much about it (the injury problems) but we are approaching the international break and the main priority now is to recover players.

“We’ve got nine players out. Nine. With a squad like ours, it’s very difficult, especially when many of those players are very important. Is it an excuse? No. We need to do better, compete better and get more from games. The players are showing that they really want to try and really want to turn the situation around. It’s in our hands to turn the situation around. The important thing is that we’re now going to get some time to recover some players and that’s for me the main target.”

Harris on fixture pile-up

Neil Harris says Millwall’s fixture schedule has been ‘bonkers’ over the last couple of weeks. “It’s the seven points in the week that are massive for us,” he said after the Lions’ draw with Stoke.

“I’ve been very careful what to say before this game – because I didn’t want it to affect my football club and my players – but we finished last Sunday at quarter-past five against Burnley. This is our third game in less than six days. It’s bonkers. We are put in a situation, so just huge credit to my players for a battling performance and some really good chances created.

Stoke played really well, I’ve got to be honest. They have grown into a really good team. They move the ball really well and asked a lot of questions of us. We looked weary in the second half – we opened up spaces we don’t open up. That’s not because of the personnel on the pitch or knowledge, it’s probably just weary legs. So Stoke had a lot more of the football, especially second half, but we had really good chances. Femi Azeez is gutted not only to get on the scoresheet but the hat-trick.”

Wober return

Leeds United have been handed a boost in the form of Max Wober, who looks to have returned to fitness following knee surgery. Wober is yet to return for the Whites, but he has now been called into the Austria squad for this international window.

Wober is yet to make a single Championship appearance so far this season due to his knee issue, and Leeds now have the added stress of sitting and hoping for him to come through the break still on a good path to fitness rather than suffering any sort of setback.
