The new Championship season is now just a matter of days away, with pre-season friendlies now over and done with. For Millwall, QPR and their Championship rivals, match training will now begin, and barring international breaks, it will continue for the best part of 10 months.

A marathon awaits, and and it’s for that reason managers will be desperate to get their new signings wrapped up and embedded ahead of kick-off. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding all of the second tier teams.

Begovic blow

Former QPR keeper Asmir Begovic has now landed a deal with League One club Charlton Athletic, with the Addicks walking away from talks, according to the South London Press. Begovic was released by QPR at the end of the season, and indeed his contract.

It looked as though Charlton may be able to snap him up, but the club and the player have failed to reach an agreement over terms. The 37-year-old will be left searching for a new club with time running out until the start of the new season.

Begovic said before his departure in the summer: “I am currently looking at options, talking to obviously QPR, and seeing what happens there. It’s still pretty early in the transfer window. Nothing has been decided yet. I really enjoyed last year, the fact that I played so many games.”

Clarke ‘interest’

Leeds United are said to be interested in a deal to land Liverpool starlet Bobby Clark this summer. Football Insider say the Whites have entered the race after RB Salzburg saw a £6million offer rejected.

Some reports have claimed Liverpool could sell the talented youngster for £12million, while others say they are unwilling to sell at any price. While Leeds have plenty of money on the back of the Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville sales, a loan mean may be more realistic in any case, while it would also likely be Liverpool’s preference. Clark only signed a new long-term deal last year.

Doyle deal close

Norwich City are said to be set to wrap up a deal to sign Manchester City starlet Callum Doyle on a loan deal. According to Sky Sports News, the Canaries are putting Doyle through his medical ahead of announcing the deal.

Doyle helped Coventry City reach the play-off final the year before last and then helped Leicester City to the title last season. The City starlet could prove to be key for Norwich, who have lost Gabriel Sara to Galatasaray, while there is also interest in Jonathan Rowe this summer.
