Gnonto boost for Leeds

Leeds United have been dealt a boost with Aston Villa reportedly no longer interested in a deal to sign Willy Gnonto. Reports have claimed that Everton have been in touch with Leeds over a possible deal for the winger, but talks have not yet advanced.

Villa agreed to sell Moussa Diaby to Saudi Arabia, while they have brought in Jaden Phologene from Hull City having held an £18million buy-back clause in his deal. That transfer will see Villa duck out of the race for Gnonto.

Dozzell set for move

Former QPR man Andre Dozzell looks set for pastures new after being released by the Hoops at the end of last season. According to Alan Nixon, via his Patreon account, Sheffield United are pushing for a deal to land Dozzell on a free transfer.

Dozzell spent time on loan with Birmingham City last season, but he is going to prefer a move to the Championship rather than League One. Confirming Dozzell’s departure in May, QPR CEO Christian Nourry said: “Andre played an important role for the football club in the first half of the season and we will be forever grateful for the contributions he made.

“A difficult decision was made in January, linked to the club’s financial realities and other market priorities, in a move that was additionally designed to afford Andre more starting football. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

Ilcali claim

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has promised new signings aplenty this summer. He told Hull Live: "Pre-season is so important in football and we've experienced it so many times before. Having the coach in the beginning of the pre-season was our first target and we did that, after that, with our recruitment and of course, players leaving, I have to say from our side we have to wait, wait, wait and score the goal.

"Otherwise, we're going to make mistakes. We do not have an unlimited budget where we can spend on any player. For us, every player has to be approved by our coach and thanks to him he's not approving. We will make eight or nine transfers for Hull City. We will drown Tim Walter in transfers. We have shortcomings. Last year, no one expected us to be seventh. We will push hard to get to the Premier League. We are fighting against teams that are 2.5 times our budget. Can we? We can."

Ilcali was heavily criticised after sacking Liam Rosenior at the end of last season, but he will surely get some fans back on board with his bold transfer statement.
