Alex Neil issues triple Millwall injury update ahead of Crystal Palace after 'poor challenge'
Alex Neil has been speaking about Millwall’s fitness situation ahead of next weekend’s Crystal Palace clash.
Millwall boss Alex Neil has provided a positive injury update after Saturday’s dramatic late win over Derby County. Josh Coburn scored five minutes into stoppage time to secure the points, and the Lions are now in possession of a top-half spot as they prepare for a tricky tie next weekend.
Neil’s men will take on London rivals Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round, with a spot in the quarter-finals up for grabs at Selhurst Park. Palace have been in solid form over recent months, and with many of big boys already out of the competition, the Eagles will believe they might have the chance to win it.
As for Millwall, they will be eyeing an upset against their local rivals, and they will be boosted not only by the late win over Derby, but by some positive injury news that followed the Price Park encounter. Defender Joe Bryan limped off just before the hour-mark in the East Midlands, and Neil explained to South London News after the game: “I think he’s just cut the bridge of his foot.
“I don’t think there’s any structural damage which is pleasing. It’s not a good challenge. I’ve seen it back. It’s a poor challenge from the lad. I don’t think he means it. The referee obviously doesn’t see it properly, because if he does I think he probably sends him off. It wasn’t a good challenge but it is what it is.”
Elsewhere, Ra’ees Bangura-Williams and Aaron Connolly were absent against Derby, but Neil has confirmed that both players could be in contention to face Palace next weekend, with the former more likely to be. Neil added: “Ra’ees hopefully should be fit for the weekend and I don’t think Aaron be far away either, but he’s cup-tied so won’t matter for him. Aaron just had a bit of nerve pain in his back. He would’ve travelled and unfortunately pulled out yesterday just midway through training.”
