Chelsea might have beaten Liverpool to the punch for Moisés Caicedo but they may miss out in their latest transfer clash with the Reds. After weeks of pursuing Roméo Lavia, Jurgen Klopp and his side now seem to finally be getting somewhere with the Southampton star.

Liverpool had struggled to impress the Saints with their offers in recent weeks, having had three bids rejected. However, a fee has finally been settled and the Reds have taken a big step closer towards getting their man.

That’s according to The Guardian, who report that the two clubs have now agreed on a £60 million transfer fee for Lavia, who Klopp and his side have admired for some time now. However, the graft isn’t over just yet, as they must now convince the midfielder to come to Anfield rather than Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea pose a hijack threat.

This comes right after the two clubs locked horns over the signing of Caicedo just days ago. The Reds looked set to massively upset their rivals after tabling a shock £111 million bid for the Brighton man, which the club happily accepted as it was in excess of their original £100 million valuation.

They swooped in for the long-standing Chelsea target in the eleventh hour, despite the Blues had been pursuing him since the transfer window opened. Even though Brighton and Liverpool shook hands over the money side of the deal, Caicedo revealed he only wanted to leave the south coast this summer if it was to join Chelsea, which is now edging closer to fruition after an even bigger bid of £115 million was lodged by the Blues.

So once again, Liverpool are back to pursuing Lavia as they desperately try to plug the gaps in their midfield. However, as we’ve already seen with Caicedo, not everything is as straight forward as agreeing on a transfer fee. In fact, Klopp is said to be concerned as there are ‘indications that Lavia favours a move to Chelsea’ this summer instead. Could Mauricio Pochettino and his team snub Liverpool of another key signing?
