England completed their fairly tale Euros win as they beat Germany 2-1 in a close encouter at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Ella Toone gave England the lead after a stalemate first half, as her audacious lob found the back of the net, but the Lionesses were pegged back in the 79th minute.

The game headed to extra time before London native Chloe Kelly prodded home from close range to give England the Euros title, etch their names into history.

This England Euro campaign has been greatly received, and has captivated an entire nation, inspiring the next generation of Lionesses in the process.

The person who led out the team all tournament was Arsenal and England defender Leah Williamson, who many consider to be an absolute rock at the back.

How was England’s Euro campaign?

England had a great Euro run. They didn’t lose a single game, only conceding an outstanding two goals all tournament, against Spain in the quarter-finals and Germany in the final.

They finished on top of their group, finishing the group stages unbeaten, winning them all, and didn’t even concede a goal.

Their wins against Norway, Austria and Northern Ireland saw them score an outstanding 14 goals, largely thanks to a 5-0 win over Northern Ireland and an 8-0 demolition job of Norway.

Overall, they scored 20 goals, and only conceded two.

Who is Leah Williamson?

Leah Williamson is a centre-back for both England and Arsenal, with her partnership at the back with Millie Bright being a big success thus far.

She was born in Milton Keynes.

The 25-year-old was appointed as permanent skipper by Wiegman in April 2022 ahead of the Women’s Euros finals

Williamson joined Rushden & Diamonds Centre of Excellence at the age of six and was at the club until 2006.

She then joined Arsenal in 2006, and only left her previous club due to her coach leaving to join the Gunners, saying “My coach at the time left to go to Arsenal. I went across with her and had a couple of trials and luckily they took me on and I never looked back from there. So I owe it all to my coach from when I was nine.”

She graduated from the Arsenal academy in 2013, making her debut a year later when she came on as an 81st-minute substitute for Rachel Yankey in Arsenal’s 0–2 defeat to Birmingham City in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final.

It was a quick rise to ascendancy for Williamson, who was crowned England Women’s Youth Player of the Year in 2015 and was named the 2014–15 PFA Young Women’s Player of the Year.

As of 2022, she has been part of Arsenal’s team since 2014, and recently signed a new deal with the club earlier this year.

In all competitions for the north London outfit, she has 124 appearances under her belt, scoring seven goals.

For her country, she made her debut in 2018 aged 21, and has two goals from 33 caps.

Her current Euro campaign has seen her popularity soar, and signed a deal with global fashion brand Gucci, following in the footsteps of Jack Grealish.

Her net worth is now predicted to be around £4 million, after deals with Pepsi and Nike were also struck earlier this year.
