Fulham may have taken a one-goal deficit before kick-off at Anfield but will head back down to London disappointed not to have claimed a scalp on Merseyside.
The Cottagers looked to be holding onto the lead provided through a classy 19th minute William goal but a deflected Curtis Jones strike saw Jurgen Klopp's men seize the impetus. Cody Gakpo had the ball in the net just minutes later and the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final finished at 2-1.
