Silva ‘approached’

Fulham boss Marco Silva reportedly became a target for a European giant this summer. Portuguese club SL Benfica are said to have eyed the Cottagers boss after Roger Schmidt was sacked.

According to Record via SportWitness, Benfica turned to Silva to fill their vacancy, reportedly approaching him directly over a possible move. Though, Fulham fans will be pleased to hear that a deal has been taken off the table due to Silva’s salary, his €15m release clause and general ‘bad timing’.

Salah plea

Liverpool star Luis Diaz is praying Mo Salah signs a new contract at Anfield as the winger enters the final year of his deal. Salah was tipped to leave for Saudi Arabia last year but ultimately chose to stay put.

“It would be hard for us,” Diaz told Telemundo of Salah’s potential departure. “It would be hard for Liverpool. It's going to hurt us a lot. He still has a year to think about it, it's not easy. He always gives his very best. He has done it from the start. It would be very hard to lose a key player like him. It's his decision and we respect that, but I hope he doesn't leave.”

Shearer on Ten Hag

Alan Shearer believes Erik ten Hag is already running out of time to save his job despite him receiving a new deal over the summer. United were thumped by Liverpool at home over the weekend.

“’Man United’s results will have to improve massively for Ten Hag to still be at the club at Christmas,” Shearer told Betfair via the Daily Mail. “A lot will depend on their next two results. After the defeat to Brighton and the manner of defeat to Liverpool, if the team doesn’t see a massive improvement in the next game or two then it will be really, really difficult for him because the noise will only get louder.”
