England v USA 2022: Lionesses to host world champions at Wembley Stadium - when is it and how to buy tickets

Freshly crowned European Championship winners England will host current World Cup holders USA at Wembley Stadium in London later this year, it has been announced.

This will be the first time the Lionesses have faced the United States women’s team since 2020, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the She Believes Cup, courtesy of goals from Christien Press and Carli Lloyd.

The announcement on the upcoming game, set to be held in October, comes after the Lionesses, led by former Dutch manager Sarina Wiegman ended 56 years of heartache as they beat Germany 2-1, also at Wembley to secure England their first major international trophy since 1966.

A tense and nervy final looked to be going all the way to penalties until Manchester City strike Chloe Kelly etched her name into the history books as she prodded home from close range.

With their focus now switched to the World Cup, this will be a great test for the Lionesses against the likes of Tobin Heath, Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and more.

When are England playing USA at Wembley Stadium?

The Lionesses will play host to the USA women’s team on Friday, 7 October - with tickets now available to buy.

At the time of writing, it is the last scheduled game for England, who will complete their whirlwind year with one of their toughest tests yet.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased directly from the Wembley website, the venue of the match.

With the announcement on twitter, and the sheer amount of hype around the Lionesses, it’s believed tickets will sell out fairly quickly.

When you click ‘buy tickets’ on the Wembley website, you will be placed into a queue, so make sure you have a lot of free time spare when going to purchase the tickets.

Fans must also note that this game is subject to the Lionesses securing World Cup qualification prior to the game.

If England have to play a play-off game to ensure World Cup qualification, anyone who purchases a ticket for the game will be entitled to a refund and also given the chance to buy a ticket for the play-off.

What other games are the Lionesses playing this year?

Aside from this game against the USA, England only have two more scheduled games, with one at home.

Their next game is away to Austria on 3 September, and just three days later the Lionesses will travel back home to take on Luxembourg at the bet365 stadium in Stoke, with reports that the game has already sold over 20,000 tickets.
