Manchester City have stepped up interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze and are planning to submit an official bid in the coming days.

Pep Guardiola’s side had agreed a deal with Lucas Paqueta from West Ham but talks broke down over betting issues and the Citizens have looked to move on quickly to other targets.

The treble winners have had a bid in the region of £45million swiftly turned down but are braced for the Premier League champions to intensify their interest.

Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of Wolves Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes and previously described him as “one of the best players in the world but he is equally amazed by the ability of Eze who had his best campaign yet in the Premier League with 10 goals and four assists.

Tottenham had been interested earlier in the season with the player reportedly on £30k-a-week wages at the south London club.

The Eagles lost Wilfried Zaha to Galatatsary this summer but managed to get promising youngster Michael Olise to look the other way when Chelsea threw money at him.

He signed a new deal in south London and is on £100k-a-week at the club as they look to hold on to one of their best players.

Manchester City will be without Kevin De Bruyne for at least three months and are looking to bring in players to add competition having already bought Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic earlier in the summer.

The situation of Eberechi Eze is one to keep an eye out for as the English midfielder's form and potential could potentially define the kind of season Palace have this campaign.
