Southampton vs Crystal Palace early injury news as 4 ruled out and 5 doubts

A look at the injury news surrounding Crystal Palace and Southampton as the two sides prepare to face off in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace now turn their attention back to the Premier League after securing an FA Cup semi-final spot at Wembley with an away win over Fulham on Saturday. The Eagles will already be looking forward to that one, but Oliver Glasner will want his men to ensure they finish the Premier League season strongly.

Southampton are next up, on Wednesday, and the Saints already know they are heading back to the Championship with the three promoted sides having failed to make the step up to the top flight, all headed back to the second tier barring a great escape. Southampton are yet to surpass the Premier League’s lowest-ever points tally of 11 points, currently on nine, and they have now lost their last 10 games across all competitions.

This is a game Palace will be expecting to tick off as a win to aid their bid to finish in the top half, but it could be a potential banana skin. Here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding both teams ahead of the game.

Will Smallbone - Doubt

Smallbone is hoping to return here. Juric said before the break: “His weakness is his physically, and we’re starting to work on that in the gym.”

Jan Bednarek - Doubt

Bednarek is another who is hoping to return here. Juric said: “Bednarek was constantly bleeding from the nose after the clash with the opponent. We decided that there was no point in him continuing to play, but the whole matter is not serious.”

James Bree - Doubt

Bree has been out of late but is expected to be close to a return from a hamstring issue.

Ross Stewart - Out

Stewart has been working his way back from a longer term issue, but he is said to have suffered a setback in his recovery.

Juan Larios - Doubt

Larios is also working his way back, and it’s likely this one will come too soon for him, but he will go down as a doubt until there is more concrete information.

Chadi Riad - Out

Riad is out for the calendar year after rupturing his ACL. Glasner said at the time: “Chadi has ruptured his ACL, so we have lost [him] for the rest of the season and even longer. There was no impact, and Chadi as well, it was just a normal situation in training ' so it's really frustrating.”

Cheick Doucoure - Out

Doucoure is also out for the season with a serious knee injury. Glasner said: “After further assessments, Cheicky needs surgery on his knee, so we have lost [him] for the rest of the season. We hope [he] will return for pre-season.”

Will Hughes - Doubt

Hughes should be back, but he missed the weekend’s clash with Fulham due to illness. Glasner explained: “He's a bit sick, so let's see how the afternoon and the night will be.” With a couple of days of rest, Hughes should be confident of returning here, but he will go down as a doubt until his recovery is confirmed.

Joel Ward - Out

Ward remains out with a calf injury that has kept him out for much of the season.
