'Next week': Oliver Glasner makes Marc Guehi admission after impressive Newcastle United win

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is hoping to have one of the team’s top players back from injury soon.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi trained with the team this week as he closes in on a sensational return to full fitness following knee surgery. He’s been absent for 82 days and has missed 12 games.

In his absence, the Eagles have changed manager with Oliver Glasner taking over from veteran Roy Hodgson and introducing an exciting and entertaining football brand. They have also won the last three matches and are favourites in this weekend’s game against Fulham

Not many would have thought the south London club would respond to the manager's style of football instantly and with Guehi who has been one of the club’s best signings in the last few years returning soon, the signs are looking bright.

Asked what the England international situation was, Glasner said he was making giant strides and even trained this week.

The Palace boss told reporters after the win against Newcastle. “We hope so. He did sessions with the team this week (recovery sessions - 35 minutes). We expect him back with the team next week & then let's see how he feels. We don't want to risk anything. We want him to play [more] minutes this season.”

To finish with style

The Eagles have seen the benefit of having Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze both fit and having Guehi back will improve their build-up from the back and increase their ability to keep the ball under pressure.

In what has been a challenging campaign, Palace is 14th on the league table but are rapidly improving and piling up the points. They will go above Fulham if they can win and close in the gap on Wolves in 12th.
