Oliver Glasner explains where Arsenal are 'very dangerous' in warning to Crystal Palace stars

Oliver Glasner is well aware of the challenge Crystal Palace face against Arsenal on Sunday.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been very complimentary of Mikel Arteta ahead of his side facing Arsenal on Sunday. The Eagles suffered a surprise defeat to Larnaca in the Conference League on Thursday night, with palace suffering only their second defeat of the season across all competitions, losing only once so far in the league.

They now head to the Emirates Stadium for a date with an Arsenal side that is in superb form, currently top of the table, and they too have only lost once in the league. Arsenal had better luck in Europe this week, defeating Atletico Madrid, and pretty comfortably.

The positive for Palace is that they took a point from the Emirates Stadium as recently as April, so they will head to North London with plenty of belief that they can get something from the Premier League leaders.

Asked about the challenge, Glasner said: “I said before Bournemouth game that I don't expect a 3-3 and then it happened! But, to be honest, I think the last result at the Emirates Stadium [for us] was a 2-2. Even there we had great chances before we scored the equaliser, and it was three days before the semi-final of the FA Cup, so we are looking forward to this game.

“Of course I watched their game against Atletico Madrid, and you can see they are very efficient, very dangerous in set-plays, and they can always create situations. They make good runs in-behind, with their wingers, and are good in the one-v-ones.

“We have many, many strengths. But on the other side, and this will be important there... maybe it makes a click at the Emirates... to be efficient, having one or two chances and scoring one or two goals.

“I don't expect us to have seven or eight big chances. But on the other side, I hope I'm wrong like I was before Bournemouth, and we have seven or eight big chances there.”

Palace team news

It’s a busy week for Palace, who were back to that dreaded Thursday to Sunday turnaround, but there are no injuries from the frustrating Conference League defeat. “It looks like everyone came through physically okay [from the Larnaca game],” added Glasner.

“For us it is now just about recovery. the weather looks fine, so then we will be on the pitch playing a little bit of head tennis, using all the facilities we have. The players already started with the recovery, and with the players who didn't play and keeping them in the rhythm, they'll do 30, 40 minutes, a little bit of ball work.

“It's just about staying in the rhythm and being best prepared for Arsenal, and this is what I can promise, is that the players will be fit and ready.”

Arteta returns the compliment

In his own press conference, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised Palace and Glasner. He said when asked about what can be learned from April’s home draw: “If we want a very different outcome, we'd better do very different things than we did last year, especially in these fixtures.

“We know what Palace are doing, what Oliver [Glasner] is doing for the football club, and the way they are getting results. So it's going to be a really tough match, but we're going to play again in front of our crowd, and we are confident that if we hit our level, we have a big chance to win it.”
