After Crystal Palace’s final game of the 2022/23 season against Nottingham Forest, manager Roy Hodgson admitted he has “no idea” whether his future remains at Selhurst Park or not. He returned to the position as head coach of the Eagles in March, following the dismissal of Patrick Vieira.

The Frenchman initially took over from Hodgson in 2021, after almost four years in charge of his boyhood club. The well-travelled Englishman was brought in until the end of the season to help Palace get back on form after a troublesome start.

Palace earned an 11th-place finish on the final day with 45 points. They managed to finish higher than the likes of Chelsea, Wolves and West Ham, but Hodgson is unsure whether the board are going to extend his deal with the club.

“I’m not prepared to make any comment like that,” the 75-year-old said after the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest. “Before I start talking about whether I want to stay anywhere or take on any jobs, someone better offer me one.”

Ian Wright has weighed in on the situation and praised Hodgson for getting Crystal Palace out of a rut. He also believes that for the time being at least, it would make sense for the Eagles to stick with their current head coach moving forward.

“He’s done exactly what they’ve got him in to do. He’s won five games out of those ten and he’s saved them,” the Arsenal legend told LondonWorld. “They pressed the button on Patrick [Vieira] , unfortunately for Patrick, and they’ve brought him in and he’s saved them so you have to say well done to Palace.

“It’s interesting to see Roy say nothing has been offered to him yet. Are they going to stay with Roy? Are they going to go young again? What are they going to do? Are they going to try and change something like they did with Patrick and [Frank] De Boer before? They’ve gone back with Roy on two occasions, they might as well stay with Roy.”
