Crystal Palace are said to be attempting to sign a Liverpool attacker as they look to gear up for the second half of the season.

Crystal Palace are said to have come short in their bid to land a current Liverpool player. The Eagles have had a mixed season so far, struggling early on but picking up of late to move out of the bottom three.

Oliver Glasner’s men still have some way to go until they can forget about the bottom three, however, with just five points separating them from Ipswich Town in the final drop spot. Palace will have bigger ambitions, but they must first put some serious distance between themselves and the bottom three.

January signings could be key to taking those steps forward, and Liverpool youngster Ben Doak is said to be of interest. The Athletic claim the Eagles have submitted a £15million bid for the winger and attacking midfielder, but the Reds have rejected the offer.

Interestingly, Ipswich Town have also submitted an offer, according to the report, offering £16million, but that has also been rejected. Doak is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, and it’s reported that Liverpool would prefer to leave him on loan at Boro for the rest of the season before assessing his development in the summer.

Rejecting such big offers for a 19-year-old who is still unproven, Liverpool clearly think a lot of Doak, who has played a key part in Boro’s push for the playoffs this season. The Eagles do too, it seems, but they may have to look elsewhere unless they want to consider potentially paying over the odds for the winger.

Who is Ben Doak?

Ben Doak is a 19-year-old attacker who currently plays for Liverpool, on loan at Middlesbrough. Doak has made 20 league appearances for the Championship club, scoring twice and assisting five goals to date. He has three league appearances for Liverpool after making two league outings for Celtic before his £600,000 move to Anfield.

Doak was praised by pundit Danny Murphy after he was selected for Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad. “He is a super quick, explosive winger,” Murphy told talkSPORT. “I don’t know where he is at fitness-wise but he gives you something so different because of his pace. He’s got amazing, explosive pace which could cause teams problems off the bench. He could get in (the final squad). I’m surprised, but it could be a nice surprise.”
