Just three months ago, there were fears Crystal Palace could be heading down to the Championship. Tonight, however, they have just completed their third win in a row, defeating Eddie Howe’s Newcastle 2-0.

Liverpool, West Ham and the Magpies - none of these sides are easy wins but Oliver Glasner has taken them all down and the Eagles sit well clear of any relegation concerns. It was undoubtedly a team effort, with Eberechi Eze once again providing a selection headache for Gareth Southgate ahead of the Euros tournament, but it would be the French star Jean-Philippe Mateta who would take goal-scoring glory, bagging a brace at Selhurst Park and securing his eighth goal in nine matches.

Speaking to LondonWorld after the match, Glasner confirmed that he has no intention of slowing down now, however.

“We now go for four in a row”, Glasner enthused. “(It was a) Great performance and all the credit to the players today. The energy, the intensity, the offensive way of playing always trying to score goals and yes its a good feeling to have completed mission number one) staying in the Premier League. I hope the players get addicted to winning games, to this emotion, this feeling of winning.

The Eagles have enjoyed four wins and three losses since Glasner’s arrival in February but the Austrian former Eintracht Frankfurt boss is keen to keep all the praise with his squad: “We are no magicians so we just encourage them”, Glasner confirmed.

“(We) have to say thank you to the players for the trust because we changed many things. They were always listening, working hard, trust and believing. It’s great to see how the players play and the first 30 minutes I was so impressed.”

“I was scared! I couldn’t believe what I saw - I thought we’d have to made ten substitutions in minute 60! There was a lot of quality, a lot of speed and it was really amazing.”

With four games still to go this season, there is one figure who has been absent for much of Glasner’s stay at Selhurst Park but the manager is keen he will be seen before the 19 May.

Marc Guehi was ruled out in February after undergoing knee surgery but the Austrian boss said of the defender: “We expect him back with the team next week but we see how he feels. We want him to play minutes in this season but the health of the players, we never risk that.”
