Former Crystal Palace star in ‘advanced talks’ with Premier League newcomers

The Premier League newcomers are set to continue their hectic summer in the transfer market.

Former Crystal Palace star Cheikhou Kouyate is close to joining Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest.

Steve Cooper has enjoyed a productive summer in the transfer market after adding 12 new faces to his squad in their aftermath of their promotion back into the Premier League.

Talks are ongoing with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a deal for midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White - but it is former Palace star Kouyate that looks set to become the latest addition to Cooper’s ranks.

The Senegal international is currently a free agent and has attracted interest from a number of clubs after his four-year stay at Palace came to an end last month.

Kouyate was reportedly keen to extend his time at Selhurst Park and praised Eagles manager Patrick Vieira towards the end of last season.

Speaking in April, he told the club website: "You see how we play tactically – he (Vieira) knows everything. Every time we play against one team, he knows what they are going to do. He knows what way we are going to play.

“I say: ‘How does he do that?’ Every time we are on the field, it is easier for us. We play together, as a team.

“He tells us what we are going to do, and this is easier for all the players who are going to play the game. Any eleven, they can play because it is easy for us.

“I don’t know how he does it but in some years (Vieira and Palace) are going to be on a different level.”

However, the substitute appearance he made in the final game of the season against Manchester United turned out to be the his last for the club and his departure was confirmed when his contract came to an end last month.

His next appearance at Selhurst Park seems likely to come in the colours of Forest, should a deal be officially completed over the coming days.
