Fabrizio Romano says Crystal Palace will complete 'real threat' transfer today
Crystal Palace are about to complete a big-money deal to sign a new forward.
Crystal Palace are expected to confirm the arrival of a new player today, with Oliver Glasner getting his hands on a key new weapon. The Eagles have struggled for form of late, with injuries not helping their case.

The Eagles are now six games without a win across all competitions after their New Year’s Day draw with Fulham, but they have at least snapped a three-game losing streak that saw them drop to 10th place. Palace are still in with a good shot of securing back-to-back European qualifications, though, with the London club separated from the top six by just three points.
And to that end, it is wise for them to invest in the January window to make sure Glasner has the tools he needs to make a real run at European football. It is also a wise idea to back Glasner at a time when the Austrian is considering his future, with his contract up at the end of the season.
It’s unclear how many Palace will sign this winter, but we do know that the first in through the doors at Selhurst Park is Wales international Brennan Johnson. The forward is joining Palace on a deal worth a reported £35million from Tottenham, who paid just short of £50million to sign Johnson from Nottingham Forest in 2023.
Johnson scored the winning goal for Tottenham in the Europa League final last season, and it’s a peculiar decision from Spurs to allow Johnson to leave at a time when the North London club could do with more goalscorers. Johnson has 18 goals in 81 league games for Spurs, so he is not a reliable goalscorer as such, but he regularly plays in a wide role, and he is good for a goal every three games or so on average across his time at Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.
Palace are hoping Johnson will bring that form to Selhurst Park, and indeed continue to improve and develop, given he is still only 24 years of age. Johnson is expected to complete his move to Selhurst Park on Friday, with the final part of his medical due to take place, according to Romano.
Romano posted on X: “Brennan Johnson will complete second part of medical and sign in at Crystal Palace today.”
Johnson a ‘real threat’
Johnson was once described as a ‘real threat’ by former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, who said in September of 2024: “Brennan's had a top week. He scored in the cup to get us through and scored the winner, and scored a fantastic goal again today to get us there [win over Brentford].
"He was a real threat all the way through. And he had a bit of a tough period last week. But sometimes it gives you perspective about what's important and what's important to Brennan is that he's a much-loved teammate. Like I said last week, he works hard every day and I know he will make a big impact for our club."
