European giants 'looking concretely' at Crystal Palace star amid Liverpool transfer interest
A number of clubs are now said to be circling Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.
Crystal Palace could be about to count the cost of their decision to block Marc Guehi’s departure on the final day of the summer transfer window. Guehi was all set to joint Liverpool before the Eagles decided to pull the plug on the count of having failed to find a replacement.

That decision upset Guehi, and Oliver Glasner spoke of his frustration that a replacement wasn’t found, but the Austrian will have been pleased to see Guehi kept around.
Since then, Guehi has put his head down and played a key role in an impressive run of form that saw Palace remain the last unbeaten Premier League team of the season until Sunday’s late defeat to Everton.
From a sporting point of view, the decision to keep Guehi was a good one, but with the defender out of contract next summer, it could cost Palace £35million, given a free departure is now on the cards. Liverpool were willing to pay £35million, and even that was a heavily discounted fee from the £75million Newcastle United were willing to pay in the previous window.
Palace have won an FA Cup since then, so they will happily take the initial hit, and it remains to be seen what they can achieve this season, A Conference League title or European qualification might just make it all worth it again, even if Guehi leaves, but failure to achieve either of those things and it could be a costly move.
Liverpool are expected to come back to the table either in January to pursue a cheap deal or in the summer, and according to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich are now showing real interested.
He posted on X: “FC Bayern are already looking concretely at Marc #Guéhi. Max Eberl is a big admirer, and initial talks with the player’s representatives have already taken place. Bayern are interested in a free transfer in 2026, but that depends on what happens with Upamecano/Kim. There is competition: Liverpool and Barcelona are seriously involved, and Real Madrid are also in the race. #LFC.”
Bayern and clubs outside of England are able to agree a pre-contract with Guehi from January 1 providing no contract extension is signed before then, and an extension is very unlikely. That could put Bayern and the other European clubs at an advantageous position to Liverpool unless the Premier League champions want to offer up cash for a deal in the winter window.
