Experienced manager Roy Hodsgon will sign a one-year contract once he’s back from holidays to take charge of Premier League side Crystal Palace for another season.

The 75-year-old returned to the club for a second spell in March where he won five of the 10 games he was in charge, he also drew three of them and lost only twice as the Eagles came from a disastrous position when Patrick Vieira was in charge to finishing comfortably in midtable.

Hodgson will turn 76 during the season but his massive impact when he took over the Eagles mean his age is not an issue as the south London side look to continue their strong end to the season.

Other candidates were interviewed for the job but ultimately the board decided Hodgson was the best man for the job with some players secretly pushing for his return.

The former Inter Milan and England boss has managed the Eagles 172 times already across two spells at Selhurst Park but his connection and love for the club marks him out as one of the best to ever manage the club.

Palace are still hoping that they can convince Wilfried Zaha to renew his contract, but Lazio and PSG are among the teams that have been looking at him. The Eagles are however primed to still excel without him given the strong emergence of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.

Crystal Palace have given new contracts to Nathaniel Clyne and Jordan Ayew as they look to lock down their top performers and give Hodsgon a solid base to work with next season.
