The obvious Crystal Palace and Wolves transfer swap deal that Newcastle United would love - opinion
Wolves star Hwang Hee-chan has been linked with an exit for Molineux with Crystal Palace in the market for creativity.
Crystal Palace have endured a quiet transfer window so far in south London but, if the club are to keep Oliver Glasner happy, several new faces need to arrive at Selhurst Park before the end of Deadline Day next week.

The Eagles have seen star man Eberechi Eze make the switch to Arsenal for £60 million with stalwart centre-back Marc Guehi also tipped to leave the club amid links with Liverpool. Crystal Palace manager Glasner has made it clear that his team will not reach their ambitions unless the creativity lost by Eze is replaced and outlined that, without a replacement, it would be a serious problem to see Guehi depart.
Crystal Palace are set to add Mateus Fernandes to their ranks from Southampton with Manchester City star Manuel Akanji targeted at centre-back. Even with those additions, the London outfit are in need of more squad players to compete on both a Premier League and Europa Conference League front this season.
Crystal Palace linked with Wolves star Hwang
One obvious deal that the club could pursue is for Wolves star Hwang Hee-chan. Crystal Palace had been linked with a move for the player with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano writing on Tuesday: “Wolves are closing doors to Hee-chan Hwang exit for the final days after two approaches from PL club. #WWFC see Hwang as part of the project and despite proposals, no intention to sell.”
It makes sense for Hwang to leave Molineux. The 29-year-old is struggling for a starting berth under Vitor Pereira and he has the attributes to slot in well in the two advanced midfielder positions that Glasner likes to deploy behind Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Speaking about the player in 2023, former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil said: "He has physical attributes to cause problems at this level, so he'll be extremely important with the chances we're creating as he's a good finisher. He's intelligent with his movement. I'm sure we'll see a lot of him in a Wolves shirt this year and I'm looking forward to trying to improve him and his understanding, because I think there's still more we can get out of him."
Hwang is quick, creative and capable of hitting the back of the net. He has 22 goals to his name in 109 Premier League appearances and still at an age when he should be playing his best football.
Eagles should offer Edouard to Molineux
If Crystal Palace do make a move for Hwang, it makes sense to offer Odsonne Edouard to their Premier League rivals in a swap deal. The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour under Oliver Glasner and is tipped for an exit to free up space on the wage bill.
Edouard previously spent four years at Celtic, winning four Scottish Premiership titles and bagging 87 goals for the Glasgow giants. Celtic had been linked with transfer interest in the striker this summer, as well as La Liga outfit Girona and Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
Oliver Glasner was candid when speaking about Edouard last season and maintaining that he did not have a part to play under him at Crystal Palace. As Edouard struggled for minutes on loan at Leicester City, the Eagles boss was asked about potentially recalling the player. He said: “We always follow our loan players. But, to be honest, especially this week with three games, it’s not my highest priority to think about Odsonne [Edouard].
“I don’t know about the contract details. From our side, it makes no sense to bring him back because if he’s not playing at Leicester, then why should he play for Crystal Palace? It was the same situation in the summer. Maybe he decided to get more minutes there. We explained the situation. The situation didn’t change at the end of the transfer window. It’s up to him and his agent.”
It could be in Wolves’ best interest to offer Edouard a lifeline with talisman Jorgen Strand Larsen a serious target for Newcastle United. The Magpies are expected to make a new £60 million bid for the striker with Pereira admitting that ‘every player has a price’.
Strand Larsen scored 14 Premier League goals for Wolves last season and, while it would take some comeback for Edouard to hit that tally, he did manage 18 goals over his first three top flight seasons.
A Hwang and Edouard swap deal may excite Newcastle United supporters more than anyone else, given that it could green light a Strand Larsen exit, but it’s a move that makes solid sense for Crystal Palace and Wolves too.
In other news, Crystal Palace tipped to ‘quadruple’ star's wage to seal landmark £26m transfer deal.
