Crystal Palace player ratings: 'influential' 7/10 but 'careless' 4/10 in draw vs Brighton

Brighton and Hove Albion scored late to deny Palace all three points at Selhurst.

Substitute Danny Welbeck scored a header to deny Crystal Palace a memorable victory after Jordan Ayew had given the home side the lead late in the first half. The Ghanaian's second league goal of the season gave the Eagles the lead before a strong second half from the Seagulls rescued a point.

The hard-working Ayew showed his predatory instincts as with all good strikers, anticipating where Michael Olise's cross would be to power home the goal and give the Eagles the lead in south London. Brighton had started the game the better side, knocking the ball around with confidence and purpose, looking to test Dean Henderson.

The Palace goalkeeper was called into action twice before Ayew scored, and despite the visitors dominating possession, it was quite easy to work out their game plan, pass and pass till they created an opening and the Eagles were comfortable with that.

The equalising goal though would come from a simple cross which Danny Welbeck on for Simon Adingra would guide past Henderson with 10 minutes to end it all. Welbeck's goal quietened the often intimidating Selhurst and the visitors came close to scoring twice again before the final whistle.

A point each is probably a fair result given both teams had chances to take all three, but Palace will feel that this was another one which got away from them after being in the lead for large parts of the game.

Here is how we rated Roy Hodgson players out there today.
