Crystal Palace v Arsenal: 10 brilliant photos of fans as the Premier League returned

As the Premier League returned under the lights at Selhurst Park, we bring you 10 of the best photos of supporters.

A year is a long time in football, particularly in the Premier League.

On the opening fixture of the previous campaign, Arsenal slumped to defeat to Brentford in west London.

A year on, bolstered by the signings of Manchester City duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleg Zinchenko, they ground out an impressive win at Selhurst Park.

Gabriel Martinelli headed in the first from Zinchenko’s knockdown from a corner, and after weathering a sustained spell of Palace pressure, Bukayo Saka’s cross was turned into his own net by Marc Guehi.

The Gunners showed their progress from last season, when the wheels fell off their campaign for Champions League football at Selhurst Park.

Despite the defeat, Palace fans created an incredible atmosphere under the Friday night lights.

Before kick off, the Holmesdale unveiled an huge tifo, showing the Crystal Palace Great Exhibition.

Arsenal fans who made the short trip south of the river also made plenty of noise, at one point singing lovingly about Palace manager Patrick Vieira.
