Despite acquiring new firepower in the summer, the Eagles have been linked with move for new striker in January

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for the Real Sociedad star Sheraldo Becker with the latest reports suggesting they could almost be ‘handed the player on a transfer platter’.

The news of Palace’s apparent hope of landing another forward comes after a busy summer in which the Eagles head coach Oliver Glasner welcomed three new attacking options: Arsenal academy graduate Eddie Nketiah, ex-Marseille winger Ismailar Sarr and attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada.

However, it would seem that the Selhurst Park club are looking to bring in yet another alternative as they prepare themselves for the potential departures of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eberechi Eze - both of whom were the subject of significant transfer speculation in the recent window.

29-year-old Becker moved to the La Liga side in January move Union Berlin but has gone on to score just six goals and contribute four assists across 36 matches. This season, he has made five appearances and is yet to add to his goal contributions despite being able to operate as a centre forward or on either wing.

According to the latest reports from Estadio Deportivo, Palace are wanting to get ‘everything sealed’ on the impending transfer of Becker before the January window opens so that the Suriname international can move as soon as the market opens.

Real Sociedad bought the forward for €3m (£2.5m) in January with Becker’s existing contract with Union Berlin coming to an end at that time. However, the reports indicate that Crystal Palace are willing to pay as much as £10m for the former Dutch youth international. The Eagles are said to be ‘trying to close’ a deal with the La Liga club who are understandably not set to put any obstacles in the way of a move that could see them earn as much as £7.5m.

While SportWitness ponders on whether the Palace approach is merely the work of the ‘rumour mill’ or if it in fact genuine, what does remain clear from Estadio Deportivo’s reports is that Real Sociedad will sell the one-time Bundesliga player of the month.
