Crystal Palace submit £27.6m 'offer' for 'incredibly strong' defender who could replace Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace are said to have submitted a bid for a potential Marc Guehi replacement.

Crystal Palace have now reportedly identified a new replacement for Marc Guehi as they prepare for the centre-back’s exit. Guehi is now in the final year of his contract, and he is expected to move on unless he signs a new contract, which does not seem likely.

A number of clubs have shown interest in Guehi, and Palace know there is a strong possibility the England international will be lured away this summer. With a European campaign approaching, Palace must prepare for that eventuality, and it seems they are already doing so.

According to reports in Italy, Palace have even submitted a bid to sign a Serie A defender who has attracted praise aplenty for his displays. Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Palace have bid £27.6million to sign Inter Milan centre-back Yann Aurel Bisseck.

The 23-year-old Germany international joined Inter in 2023, and he was handed a contract just over a year later after impressing manager Simone Inzaghi, even though he wasn’t necessarily the first choice centre-back, largely behind Benjamin Pavard.

“For me, Bisseck is an incredibly strong player,” now former Inter boss Inzaghi has said previously after a Champions League clash with Arsenal. “His only issue is that there are other defenders who are also very strong. But he played against Manchester City and Arsenal; he doesn’t need to prove anything to me, he just has to keep going like this.

“Bisseck played with a rib injury, after taking a painkiller, so he did incredibly well, and the medical staff did a great job getting him back on his feet. In the first half, he had an ice pack on, but he said he wasn’t going to back down from anything.”

Inzaghi also praised the defender before that, saying; “Bisseck is a lad who signed for Inter on July 13 thanks to Marotta and Ausilio. I didn't know him. I had watched some videos. He kept improving in training, working quietly.

"Pavard was ready to play tonight, but Bisseck deserved to be confirmed because he is doing well and he must continue like this. Now, he must not lower his guard. We knew Lecce were an aggressive team, but our central midfielders did great work; they had rested on Wednesday, and you could tell. The strikers didn't score but worked hard for the team, so it's like they scored for me."

According to the report, Palace’s offer has come up short so far, with Inter reportedly wanting around £34.5million to agree a sale, meaning there is a difference of around £7million at this stage. It remains to be seen whether Palace will up their bid, but they should have the cash if they are expecting to sell Guehi for more than £50million.

Bisseck penned new contract last season

Bisseck signed a new contract as recently as November, and speaking at the time, he said: “I think I've done better than many expected. I don't think many knew my name before I arrived here, but I've done some good work and learnt the tactics and methods of Italian football. Learning the language has also been helpful. I think he's been a satisfying experience so far.

"There are many things I can still improve. I'm not a perfect player, but I'm still young and there are many aspects that I still need to work on, especially from a tactical and mental point of view. Technically and physically, I've reached a good level. I think my mentality will be key to my future growth." While Bisseck appears happy at Inter, it is worth pointing out that Inzaghi has since left the club, which could give Palace the a window of opportunity.
