Newcastle United step up interest in 18-year-old Chelsea star who was initially heading out on loan to Crystal Palace.

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Hall is closing in on a sensational move to Newcastle United despite earlier reports suggesting he was close to joining Crystal Palace on loan.

The Chelsea Academy Player of the Season played in the last seven games of last season and was one of the shining lights of what was a chaotic first season under new owners at the club. He ended the campaign as the club’s first-choice left-back even though he’d been playing in midfield for the junior teams.

This summer it became clear that he was not going to be in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino following his surprise limited time on the pitch during pre-season in the United States. Chelsea however keen on keeping him offered a new six-year deal with more money and promised a loan where he would play in the Premier League, something he would ordinarily not get at Stamford Bridge under Pochettino.

The player agreed and signed a deal hoping to join Crystal Palace but Chelsea have backtracked and are now looking to sell with Newcastle United reportedly ready to make a deal for a fee in the region of £28million for the 18-year-old.

Crystal Palace have endured a challenging summer where they saw Wilfried Zaha leave the club despite offering him never before seen money £200k-a-week wages.

They have also been hit with the news that Chelsea have found out the release clause in the contract of winger Michael Olise and are looking to trigger it with just weeks to close the transfer window.

Eagles fans were hoping the club could secure the signing of the highly-rated Lewis Hall before their Monday night game against Arsenal but as things stand it is Newcastle United who are more likely to sign him as Chelsea look to bring in more money after spending close to £1billion in the last three transfer window.
