Crystal Palace 'set to sign' ex-Bundesliga star midfielder amid fresh Jobe Bellingham update
Palace will once again look to the Championship in summer transfer window
Crystal Palace could be set for plenty of departures this summer transfer window with the likes of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta all attracting plenty of interest from around the Premier League and Europe.
However, Oliver Glasner has already begun to outline his summer plans and the Selhurst Park side are reportedly set to announce their first summer signing. Lazio star Daichi Kamada could soon be confirmed as Palace’s newest addition and reports also indicate that the Selhurst Park club are keeping close tabs on Sunderland star Jobe Bellingham.
According to The Mail’s Sami Mokbel: “Crystal Palace set to sign Daichi Kamada from Lazio. Long term target Jobe Bellingham remains of interest but not advanced at this stage.”
The 27-year-old Japanese star previously worked under Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt and the Austrian head coach is now looking for a reunion. He accumulated 73 goal contributions in 179 appearances for Frankfurt between 2017 and 2023 before signing for Lazio on a free transfer.
The midfielder will once again become a free agent next month after a proposed new deal with the Serie A side fell through. Disagreements over a proposed release clause are said to be the cause of the negotiation breakdowns and now Palace now look to be in ‘pole position’ to sign the 31-timed Japan international.
As for the 18-year-old brother of Real Madrid and England midfield sensation Jude, Jobe’s potential move to south London is not quite as imminent as might have been believed. It had been reported that the attacking midfielder was a ‘leading transfer target’ for the Austrian head coach having impressed during a difficult season at the Stadium of Light club.
Bellingham joined Sunderland in 2023 after coming up through the Birmingham City ranks - much like his brother. He has scored seven goals in 45 Championship fixtures but the Wearside club grappled to a 16th place league finish, having been without a permanent manager since February when they relieved Michael Beale of his duties.
The 18-year-old’s performances for Sunderland have, however, been a bright spark in a poor campaign with Bellingham seeing his stock rising hugely. Arriving at the Stadium of the Light in a deal worth just £1.5m, it’s now believed the club will be seeking £12m before being willing to part ways with their midfield star.
