Crystal Palace slap big price tag on key player as £87.9m transfer profit eyed from duo

Crystal Palace could be set for huge profits amid growing interested ahead of the summer.

Crystal Palace could be set for a huge transfer windfall this summer if clubs do indeed come knocking for some of their best players. The Eagles have enjoyed a good spell over recent months, putting a bumpy start behind them.

Palace are currently in 12th place, with patience in Oliver Glasner paying off, winning four of their last six in the Premier League and losing only one of their last seven league games.

But such good form usually comes with interest in consistently-performing players, and that is nothing new for the Eagles, who have always been realistic about the fact players are ultimately going to want to take another step up after their Selhurst Park stay. Palace have been tough negotiators, but top-performers do often move on, and that has been the case for the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Michael Olise.

Centre-back Marc Guehi could be the next out through the exit doors, with Newcastle United showing serious interest last summer, while Chelsea were flirting with a possible deal in January. Palace have priced Guehi as highly as £75million in the past, but that price dropped to £70million, the price could drop a little more this summer given the defender is only under terms at Selhurst Park until 2026.

Another player attracting serious interest is striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has been in terrific this season, scoring 13 times in 28 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman is also under contract until 2026, which could give Palace a decision to make if they cannot agree a new deal before the summer.

And according to a report from The Sun, the Eagles have slapped a £50million asking price on Mateta amid building interest. That could mean a potential profit of £40.9million on Mateta for Palace if the striker is to be sold, while the Guehi profit would be £47million if he was to be sold for even £65million. If both players were sold, Palace could bring in £115million in total and a combined total profit of £87.9million.

Naturally, Palace and Glasner won’t want to sell both players, but business decisions may need to be made, especially if neither player is willing to pen a new deal, leaving them with just 12 months of contract.
