The 75-year-old manager who left Palace in 2021 after a successful four-year-stay had to hurriedly return to help the club he supported as a child, and says he’d want to see renewed energy and some goals after taking charge of training in the last week.

He told Crystal Palace TV ahead of the game against Leicester City: “It’s a question of confidence.

“The players out there can score goals – there is no doubt about that. They showed that last season in particular.

“I don’t fear that we don’t have anybody who can score a goal. It’s to do with confidence and how sure you feel when you get into those goal scoring positions.

“Most importantly, for us, we have to make certain that players can get into those goal scoring positions.

“We have to try and relieve them of the fear of failure and make certain that they want to get into goal scoring positions.

Palace became the first Premier League side to go three games without a shot on target in Vieira’s last days and will now hope find their first win when they host fellow stringing Foxes.
