Crystal Palace 'planning' new contract talks as Premier League club target transfer swoop

Crystal Palace have been in Premier League action this weekend

Crystal Palace won 1-0 at home to Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon. Attacker Ismaila Sarr got their winner late on against the Tractor Boys.

The Eagles had to be patient to break down their opponents at Selhurst Park. They are in good form at the moment and have risen up to 11th place in the table.

Oliver Glasner’s side have 10 fixtures left to play this season. They now have 39 points on the board.

Crystal Palace are ‘planning’ to open new contract talks with Jean-Philippe Mateta amid links to Manchester United, according to TBR Football. He has been a key player for the South London outfit over recent times and they won’t want to lose him anytime soon.

Mateta, 27, could be seen by Ruben Amorim as someone to bolster his attacking ranks. It has been a tough campaign for the Red Devils and they find themselves down in 15th place so obviously need some more quality in their ranks.

The former France youth international linked up with Crystal Palace on an initial loan deal in 2021 before his switch was later made permanent. Prior to his transfer to England, he had spells at Lyon and Mainz.

He has made 123 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles to date and has scored 41 goals, 15 of which have come in this campaign. The forward is a real handful and has proved he can score goals at the top level.

Mateta is injured at the moment following his collision with Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts. Glasner has shared this update: "He's at home. Fortunately he had no fractures and no concussion, it's a huge wound which was stitched but healing is going like we expected and hoped.Sponsored Links

"He will go with us next week to Marbella, training individually, and if everything goes how we expected and wish, he should be available for the Fulham game.”

Oliver Glasner reaction to Crystal Palace win

Speaking after their victory over Ipswich, Glasner said: “It was a tough game – a game how we expected it. Ipswich made it difficult for us, and they make it difficult for any opposition in the league. I think they haven’t got the results maybe they’ve deserved in the last weeks.

“We knew, especially when we missed a few clear chances, that makes it just even harder. We can't always expect that the players will perform at their top level, like they did against Villa, being very efficient, because we're all not always on our top level.

“But we could see a big effort from the beginning, I could see that we created many chances and we missed them. Of course, they also had two or three – we needed Dean Henderson in two or three situations to help us.

“And then it was important to stay patient, because in the last similar games against Everton and Brentford, we made the decisive mistake and lost the game – whereas today, we waited for this situation and then we were ruthless with Ismaila Sarr’s finish, and took the win.”
