Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom. The Championship ace has emerged on their radar with the January transfer window now open.

The Eagles could see him as someone to bolster their attacking options ahead of the second-half of the season. Sky Sports claim Patrick Viera’s side are ‘interested’ along with fellow Premier League side Everton and two unnamed Bundesliga clubs.

Akpom, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season and Boro will be sweating over his long-term future at the Riverside Stadium. They do hold an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months this summer.

He has been a hit with Michael Carrick’s side and has fired 13 goals in 20 games so far this term. Akpom has played for them since 2020 but initially struggled for goals before finding his feet in this campaign.

The former England youth international started his career at Arsenal and rose up through the youth ranks of the Gunners before going on to make 12 first-team appearances. He also had loan spells away at Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Sint-Truiden before securing a permanent exit to Greece with PAOK.

Other news

In other Crystal Palace news, goalkeeper Jack Butland is in ‘talks’ over a switch to Manchester United according to a report by The Telegraph. The Red Devils have identified him as a back-up option for David de Gea following Martin Dubravka’s return to Newcastle United.
