Questions are beginning to arise surrounding the safety of Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson's job, as the Eagles currently sit 15th in the Premier League table - just three points away from the relegation zone.

As such, according to a report from Football Insider, the Palace hierarchy are considering replacing Hodgson with Steve Cooper, who was sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier in December. Should he be appointed, it would only be Cooper's third job as the manager of a senior club team, having coached Swansea City in the past.

It seems fitting for Hodgson's managerial career to end at Crystal Palace. His foray into football began in South London, as he rose through their youth team ranks from 1963 to 1965, despite never making a first-team appearance for the Eagles.

Moreover, given his age of 76, it seems Hodgson's time in management is limited - it is an extremely demanding role and something that people far younger than the former England boss find taxing. Previously, he has managed 17 club teams over the span of his career, including Liverpool, Inter Milan and Blackburn Rovers.

Would Steve Cooper be a good fit for Crystal Palace?

While Cooper's time at Forest ultimately ended in disappointment, his talents as a head coach frequently shone through - even under difficult circumstances and doubts regarding his ability to manage such an expansive dressing room.

Forest's transfer policy came under heavy criticism last season, as they set about signing many highly-regarded talents from across Europe - effectively pushing players who starred in their Championship promotion campaign to the wayside. Cooper's ability to manage these egos was questioned, but he ultimately proved his worth as he avoided relegation.

With a more concise squad such as Palace's, Cooper will not encounter this problem. Instead, he can focus on implementing his style on the team and signing players that he wants to have around.
