Roy Hodgson's injury problems are piling up at Crystal Palace and he could be without eight of his first-team players ahead of their visit to the Etihad Stadium this weekend to take on Manchester City. French striker Odsonne Edouard was replaced by Jean-Philippe Mateta due to a knock and Jordan Ayew was sent off for a second yellow card in the second half against Liverpool.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone also picked up an injury as well as summer signing Jefferson Lerma who was replaced by the returning Michael Olise. These latest injuries add to those of Cheick Doucoure, Dean Henderson, Tyrick Mitchell, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Eberechi Eze.

The Eagles are without a win in their last five league games and manager Hodgson confirmed they can't afford injuries at this stage of the campaign. He told reporters: “We can’t afford injuries. Edouard we don’t know about – it’s a knee injury.

“It’s a calf injury to Johnstone and a hamstring injury for Lerma. A suspension, too, for Jordan Ayew. Michael Olise should be okay but I doubt whether Tyrick Mitchell or Eberechi Eze will be fit [for Manchester City next weekend]. We will put a team out with the players that are left.”

The south London club are 15th on the league table with just four wins from their first 16 league games but crucially six points off the relegation zone going into this weekend's round of matches. They came close to beating Liverpool at Selhurst, but Ayew's sending-off meant goals from Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliot condemned the 10-man Eagles to a 2-1 defeat despite Mateta opening the scoring for the home side from the penalty spot.
