With only two days remaining of the transfer window, Crystal Palace are reportedly looking to make their fifth signing of the summer.

After a hugely successful campaign last season, the Evening Standard has reported that the Eagles are plotting a move to bring Conor Gallagher back to Selhurst Park.

The 22-year-old scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Premier League last season and was later named Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year.

Gallagher returned to Chelsea with the hope of first team football but has seen his first two starts for the club tarnished by the 3-0 defeat to Leeds United and his red card against Leicester.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Gallagher will be desperate for minutes on the pitch and could look to leave Stamford Bridge before Thursday’s deadline.

However, Crystal Palace aren’t the only team targeting the midfielder, with the likes of Everton, West Ham and Newcastle United also interested.

While it will be a tough challenge to win the race for Gallagher, Patrick Vieira’s side surely have the advantage following his breakthrough season with the club.

Despite this, Chelsea are still eager to keep their academy product among their ranks and will be reluctant to sanction another loan move.

Gallagher’s potential return to Selhurst Park would come as a nice surprise for fans after it was believed that they had already signed Cheick Doucoure from Lens as his replacement.
