Crystal Palace have secured the services of highly-rated Columbian midfielder Jefferson Lerma as they look to add strength, depth, and technique to their squad ahead of next season.

The Eagles have lost the experience of James McArthur but the arrival of 28-year-old Lerma is expected to perfectly oil the squad and provide new competition next season.

Chairman Steve Parish who has kept the Eagles in the Premier League for the last 10 campaigns says it was the midfielder’s combative and competitive nature that made him ideal for the club.

Parish said after the club confirmed Lerma’s arrival: “Jefferson is a strong addition to our squad.

“He is a proven performer at Premier League level, and his combative and competitive nature will endear him to the Palace fans.

“We look forward to welcoming him to the club on July 1 in preparation for our 11th consecutive season in the top flight.”

The Eagles are still without a substantive head coach after Roy Hodgson's contract expired. Hodgson only came in to help after Patrick Vieira was fired with the board thinking he was sleepwalking into relegation.

There have been reports that he would be given another deal as they plot on what is the best way forward with fans demanding more having seen sides like West Ham and even Brentford impress or at least challenge for a spot in Europe.

Another potential season-defining move will be the future of out-of-contract star man Wilfried Zaha, the club have offered him £200,000 to stay but with jaw-dropping interest from the Saudi, it remains to be seen if he sticks or twists.
