Crystal Palace boss explains why they are in a 'good' place ahead of Liverpool game as boost is confirmed

Michael Olise hasn’t started a game for the Eagles since January, but he’s trained well this week.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says they have had a good week of training ahead of this weekend’s game against Liverpool this weekend.

The Eagles are without a win in their last five matches but have welcomed forward Michael Olise to the squad after his recent injury issues. He came off the bench against Manchester City last weekend.

And when asked about the French forward’s fitness ahead of the trip to Anfield, the Palace boss confirmed he is close to starting on Sunday and highlighted how good training has been this week.

He told reporters: “He’s closer [to starting] than the week before. He had the whole week training with us.”

“We’ve had a very good week in training, high quality and a lot of intensity, which is very important because Liverpool are maybe the best team in the world that plays with the highest pressure – you never have time.

“It’s been a really good week and Michael was part of it, so he’s close to starting.”

Marc Guehi has been absent for the Austrian coach since having knee surgery on a hyper-extended knee injury he suffered in the 4-1 defeat at Brighton in early February.

But the Austrian manager insists he doesn't know when the England defender will return, he added:  “I can’t say when, but he’s working hard, we’re working hard, and of course we give our best.

“It’s a week where we have three games, so maybe it’s the week after, but we hope, at least, against Manchester United [on 6th May].”

Palace desperate for a win

Crystal Palace are winless in their last 10 Premier League away games. The team is on course for the lowest top-flight points tally in their 11 seasons since promotion.

The performances have lifted even though they have not won since they beat Burnley and are now just five points of the drop.
