Crystal Palace ace eyed by new club and former player lands new role

The latest Crystal Palace news and rumours on Thursday.

Crystal Palace are back in pre-season friendly action this weekend against French side Montpellier.

The Eagles then take on fellow London club Arsenal next Friday in the opening game of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Patrick Viera’s side finished 12th last term and will be looking to build on that.

Here is a look at all the latest news and rumours coming out of the club today....

Chairman signals to desire to sign winger

Charlton Athletic want to sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan.

The Addicks are keen to lure the highly-rated youngster to The Valley.

Their owner, Thomas Sandgaard, has said, as per a report by the South London Press:  “We are very interested in Rak-Sakyi, he’s an exciting winger that could bring extra attacking power to the team. But no deal is done as of yet.”

Richards’ first words

The Eagles have completed the signing of defender Chris Richards from Bayern Munich.

He has penned a five-year contract at Selhurst Park after spending last term on loan at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

Richards has said, as per the official club website: “I grew up watching the Premier League and grew up of course watching [Wilfried] Zaha, so it’ll be cool to spend some time on the field with them [the Palace players] and be a part of this historic club. I’m really excited for it.

“The kind of project I’ve seen [attracted me]. It’s a lot of young players but also young players who have a lot of fight. Palace is a club that seems like they’re always fighting.”

Former player lands new role

Former Crystal Palace player Stephen Dobbie has returned to Blackpool.

The Scotsman, who played 17 times for the Eagles, hung up his boots in May after a final spell with AFC Fylde in non-league.

He has now been appointed as the Seasiders’ Senior Professional Development Phase Coach.
