Crystal Palace leave Aston Villa boss "frustrated" after 4-1 triumph at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace won 4-1 at home against Villa and recorded their fourth win in five matches.

Crystal Palace made it back-to-back wins for Oliver Glasner with a 4-1 victory against Champions League-chasing Aston Villa at Selhurst Park on Tuesday night.

Palace took the lead via Ismaila Sarr from a corner, before conceding an equaliser from Morgan Rodgers in the 52nd minute.

However, there was no looking back once Jean-Phillipe Mateta put the Eagles ahead after 59 minutes. They netted two more goals through Sarr again and summer signing Eddie Nketiah, who scored his first Premier League goal since moving to Palace.

It has left Glasner’s side 12th in the Premier League, having won three out of their last four matches. Whereas Villa now sit 10th, and eight points away from the Champions League places.

Emery “frustrated” after Palace result

Following the game, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was very frustrated with the result, after he believed the score line flattered Palace, despite the fact that they were able to net four times.

He said in his post-match press conference: “We played the first 30 minutes, controlling of the game and more or less dominating. We were creating chances, and we were not conceding the chances of them.

“The first corner we conceded, the first chance they had, they scored. It was tough for us. Then, progressively, we were getting worse. We drew (level in) the second half, and in that moment we (thought) maybe it is the moment we can again react, dominating the match again, keeping ball possession better and trying to stop them.

“But they scored the second goal, the third goal, and it was progressively, of course, more difficult for us. We were not dominating a lot of duels as well with them. It’s tough to lose here. We have to accept it. We are frustrated and we have to try to move on.”

Crystal Palace eyeing the top of the Premier League form table

The mood around Glasner’s side is all positive at the moment with the Eagles having lost just two games in their last 10 matches.

They are the fourth most in-form team in the Premier League in the last six matches, behind just Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal.

They have 12 points in their last six, which is just two points less than league leaders Liverpool have managed to accumulate in the same time period. Furthermore, they have had positive results against the likes of Villa and Fulham who are both above them in the Premier League table.

They face a break from the league next as they play against rivals Millwall in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday, before returning to the Premier League for a game against Ipswich Town the following week.

With their current form, and the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea knocked out of the FA Cup, there is no reason why Palace can’t be serious contenders to win some silverware this season.
