Why Mauricio Pochettino was forced to substitute Thiago Silva against Aston Villa

Thiago Silva has been brilliant since he joined Chelsea but his days at Stamford Bridge are coming to an end.

Chelsea have another injury concern ahead of their game against Tottenham with defender Thiago Silva now a doubt for the game against Tottenham after being forced off at Villa. Silva was part of the Chelsea team which showed character to bounce back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

Ahead of the game against Unai Emery’s side, Mauricio Pochettino was missing 12 players including Raheem Sterling and midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka. Club captain Reece James is still recovering from the hamstring surgery he had last year while Christopher Nkunku is yet to join team training in the last three months.

The injuries have slowed the team’s progression under Pochettino and last night after another positive result, he was forced to provide an update on his experienced defender Silva. He told reporters when asked about the Brazilian.

He said: "We need to assess him after tomorrow. It is a pain in his groin, which was similar to Palace."

Chelsea show incredible character

The Blues once again showed that they could turn up when the stakes are high after an impressive second-half performance that saw them come back from two goals down to draw 2-2.

Chelsea were unlucky not to take all three points after Axel Disasi thought he had headed in the winner to complete the comeback but VAR had a check and decided there was a foul on Diego Carlos.

There is still a chance to finish in a Europa League spot but they will need to win against Spurs and ensure they have a strong finish to what has been a challenging league campaign.
