Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has jokingly told the board to bring them back after what has been an underwhelming start to the season under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues have struggled to look half as good as they were under Roman Abramovich despite spending close to £1billion in the transfer market since the takeover.

The likes of Raheem Sterling have joined from Manchester City with a huge reputation but the focus has been to get young players with the ability to grow, something that has meant the results have been inconsistent.

Last season after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, they hired English manager Graham Potter and had to replace him with Frank Lampard before the season ended.

Mauricio Pochettino has since arrived but with just one league win in four games, the former Nigeria midfielder says it will take time before things change.

He told Hayetrs TV: “They need to bring us back, I’m joking. They will be ok as long as the players gel.

“They are fine, they will be fine. I think the club is obviously going through a massive transition. So we need to give them time. There are a lot of good, fantastic young players.

“We need to give them time, we need to make sure they get time to work on the training ground and start to gel together as a team.

“Once we could be able to do that, I think we will be back competing again, but it is going to take us a bit of time.”

Chelsea will look for their second league win of the season when they travel to Bournemouth this weekend.
