Chelsea have a vacancy to fill in the heart of defence following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer.

The Blues missed out on signing centre-back Jules Kounde from Sevilla to Barcelona and now seem to have turned their attentions to landing Leicester City ace Wesley Fofana.

What is the latest on their pursuit of the youngster? Here we take a look....

The latest

Chelsea are reportedly poised to accelerate their pursuit of the 21-year-old once they seal a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella.

The Evening Standard report that Fofana is their ‘primary’ target and they will ‘step up’ their attempts to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

The Foxes apparently don’t want to lose their star defender though and are determined to keep him. He still has five years left on his contract at the King Power Stadium and has a hefty price tag.

A report by the Daily Mail suggests Thomas Tuchel’s side are prepared to fork out £200,000 a week to sign him but Leicester won’t consider a sale below a fee of £85million.

What has Brendan Rodgers said?

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is insisted that Fofana is not for sale, as per a report by Leicestershire Live:

“He’s not for sale. He’s come here, really flourished and developed, not just as a player but as a young man. He really respects the club. I’ve got no doubt that in the future he’ll be on that (highest) stage but he’s very comfortable, he feels good here.

“He has a great relationship with his team-mates, which is important, and there’s no doubt he will grace that stage. But for now he’s here, he’s developing and like I said he’s not for sale.”

What has Fofana said?

Fofana has been quiet on transfer speculation involving him this summer. However, eagle-eyed fans on Twitter have noticed that he has removed Leicester City from his profile.
