Trio of Chelsea stars could be 'sacrificed' in summer transfer window to avoid FFP charge

Three Chelsea senior players could depart the club in the summer transfer window.

Three Chelsea players - Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja could all leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window to help the Blues 'stay within profit and sustainability regulations'.

This is according to a report from journalist Peter O'Rouke on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast. In the last two seasons, Chelsea recorded losses of £211.5 million - which is £106.5 million over the three-year £105 million Financial Fair Play limit.

If the Blues wish to avoid sanctions, which could include a points deduction, they will be required to raise the necessary funds before June 30 of this year to bring themselves back under the £105 million mark. Recently, both Everton and Nottingham Forest have fallen foul of the FFP boundaries and have been docked points as a result of their respective spending breaches.

Should Chelsea allow any of these three players to leave the club?

While losing any of the three players is not ideal, the sale of Gallagher will hurt Chelsea the most. Chalobah and Broja have been little more than rotation options this season - Gallagher, meanwhile, has ascended to club captaincy and has played in almost every Premier League game for the Blues in 2023/24. Additionally, he has also scored two goals and has racked up five assists in the league.

The former Crystal Palace loanee has bee linked with a £30-£40 million move to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer. To lose an important player is never ideal - but losing them to such a bitter rival is even worse.

Despite this, Gallagher's current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2025. If Chelsea want to cash in on his services, now would be the ideal time to do so - rather than letting him leave on a free transfer when the end of next season rolls around.
