Real Madrid make Chelsea ace a ‘priority target’ this summer

Chelsea could face a challenge of keeping hold of one of their brightest talents this summer.

Chelsea could be the victim of their own success this summer, with academy product Reece James attracting interest from Europe’s elite.

Despite struggling with injury this season, James’ spectacular performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with Defensa Central claiming Real Madrid are eyeing a summer move for the defender.

Dani Carvajal is their current first choice right back, however he hasn’t been at his best due to fitness issues recently, while Lucas Vazquez has been working as a makeshift defender in his absence.

As the La Liga side look to bolster their backline, James has reportedly become their priority target ahead of next season.

The England international broke into the Chelsea senior team following a successful loan spell with Wigan Athletic during the 2018/19 campaign and has since established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world.

It is unclear how much Real Madrid would have to fork out for James’ signature, but given his importance to the Blues, as well as him having three years remaining on his contract, it will be very difficult to lure him away from Stamford Bridge anytime soon.

Thomas Tuchel’s side will be very much in the driving seat if Real Madrid are to make an approach and it would be a huge surprise to see Chelsea or their player express interest a transfer.

The Premier League club have struggled in the right-back position while James has been sidelined and have often rotated the likes of Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta to fill the role.
