Chelsea's new signing Romeo Lavia is already in line to make his debut against West Ham this weekend after the club confirmed the deal on Friday morning.

The Blues have also confirmed he will wear jersey NO 45 which was previously won by Trevoh Chalobah and Fabio Borini in the past as Chelsea look to swiftly integrate him in the team ahead of their Premier League game on Sunday.

The Belgian international signed a seven-year deal after completing his medical and is now expected to stay at Chelsea until the summer of 2030. Chelsea paid a fee of £55million for his service with a further three million meant to be added based on performance and easily achievable targets.

Lavia before his unveiling also spoke to Chelsea legend Eden Hazard who assured him he will get the chance to show his talent in a team like Chelsea.

Former Chelsea forward Hazard said in a video call with the midfielder: “Last year wasn’t very good for Chelsea but this year will be more calm.

“There are a lot of things that have changed. Don’t worry, you’ll get the chance to show what you can do. We know what qualities you have.”

The 19-year-old made 19 appearances for Southampton scoring one goal but it was his ball retention and ability to break up play that made him a stand-out player that both Chelsea and Liverpool battled for. The midfielder had initially been linked to Jurgen Klopp’s side but had a change of mind once Chelsea made their intentions firm.
