Chelsea could get the chance to offload a player Enzo Maresca has been critical of this season.

Chelsea could be offered the chance to temporarily offload one of their struggling players. The Blues certainly haven’t hit the target with all of their big-money signings of recent years, with some misfires along the way in their much-debated transfer policy.

Arguably, no transfer has been debated more than the big money Chelsea spent to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, who cost £62million upfront and up to £27million more in add-ons. The winger has struggled to live up to expectations, and Enzo Maresca has not been shy in criticising his efforts and lack of consistency.

Maresca said of one of Mudryk’s performances back in late August: "Because I was not happy. In some moments we can manage some situations better. He was working hard off the ball but on the ball, I expect a bit more quality from Misha. He had some good moments today but the reason why was to change it and give Pedro (Neto) some minutes."

Though, since then, he has said that he still believes in the winger, despite him being a little behind in the learning process. "We're working with him and all the wingers," said the Chelsea boss. "They need to arrive inside the box in the position where Misha [Mudryk] scored.

"He's struggled to arrive there, now he's started to. That's where we're going to score goals. We want the best for Misha - since day one we've tried to help him. Probably he's one of the guys that the learning process is more slow compared to the rest. But he's improving. I'm sure that slowly, slowly we're going to arrive where he will score more goals and to be more important for us."

Loan option

According to FootballTransfers, Crystal Palace have approached Chelsea over the possibility of signing Mudryk on loan as they look to add more threat at the top end of the pitch. The Eagles lost Michael Olise in the summer and have made a slow start to the season, winning only once so far.

A Mudryk loan deal could suit Chelsea, with Maresca clearly wanting him to develop more before offering the Ukrainian more regular starts. Though, Mudryk has regularly come off the bench for the Blues, suggesting they would need either a replacement or to have more believe in some of the other winger options before offloading the big-money signing.
